Group Together. A Team Approach to Fitness.

What sets our JP Group classes apart from a typical group fitness class?

In a word; Everything.

In this post we’re going to break down exactly what to expect when you attend a class at JP Fitness and the “why” behind our group training workouts.

What’s a JP Fitness Group Training class like?

Our Strong45 and Zone45 classes are 45-minute workouts that focus on training endurance, strength and/or power. We combine expert coaching, science and technology to get you real results.

The group training room is a high energy, motivating atmosphere with high ceilings, natural light and an industrial feel that gets you in the mood to sweat!

During a class, you will wear a heart rate monitor and your real time heart rate results will be displayed on large screens throughout the studio, alongside your fellow class participants. Intensity is based on your individual heart rate zones, which makes each workout effective for all fitness levels. Don’t let this intimidate you. The focus isn’t on competing against others in class but rather on being accountable to your own level of effort.

Each and every class is led by a certified personal trainer who will coach you to make sure you aren’t over or under training. In a future post, we’ll talk about the 5 training zones and what these zones mean.

We begin with heart rate based interval training on our treadmills and MAX trainers (think a combo of an elliptical and a stair stepper). You will go at your own pace, according to your fitness level, as your trainer coaches you through intervals and AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) circuits. This endurance focused portion of class takes about 20 minutes, then it’s on to strength.

You will find a large range of strength equipment in our group training area; barbells, dumbbells, cable stations, TRX suspension trainers, kettlebells, and resistance bands. All of these elements, along with bodyweight exercises and floor work, are incorporated each week to give your workouts tons of variety and keep you progressing.

The strength portion of class consists of 3 supersets; two exercises performed back-to-back. Each superset is repeated three times in timed intervals of 2 minutes per set. The in-studio interval timer keeps the workout moving along at a good pace. The workout of the day is displayed on a screen but our trainers are always able to provide modifications for all levels and limitations.

We design our strength workouts like a split day weight training program, alternating between “push” and “pull” focused exercises every other day of the week.

Choose from several convenient Strong45 class times on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and you’ve got a 4-day-per-week total body strength and endurance program guaranteed to get you maximum results.

To optimize your results, we offer Zone 45 group training classes on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. These workouts focus on High Intensity Interval Training using explosive movements. We recommend one to two Zone45 classes per week.

Join us in JP Group Training 5-6 days per week and you’ll be amazed at the results you’ll see. For those who love the social aspect of group classes, JP Group provides all the benefits of hiring a personal trainer at a fraction of the cost.

Stay tuned for our next post where we’ll even deeper into the science behind our heart rate training based classes and why what happens in a JP Group class doesn’t stay in a JP Group class (the Afterburn!!)
